Memory - A Distant one

I had an appointment with the dentist today. No one looks forward to the dentist. I wasn't looking forward to this one as it was because I've been having some pain and soreness in my back teeth near my wisdom teeth. Oh No!!!

Well I had to go get an x-ray to see where my wisdom teeth are placed and what they are doing. But the dentist thinks it might just mainly be muscular from clenching my jaw due to stress. Due to stress -I've been hearing that a lot lately, you have this "due to stress" ahhhh stupid stress.

Well anyway going to the dentist today reminded me of a memory I've got from when I was 9 years old. I had lost a baby tooth and mum had given me a tooth keeper to store my tooth in while it waited for the tooth fairy to come and collect and leave me some money. This one time I woke up all excited but my tooth was still in my tooth keeper. With tooth keeper in hand I walked downstairs to the kitchen very upset and processed to tell inform my mother and grandmother (who lived with us) that the tooth fairy must have forgotten me. Mum very quickly replied "She's properly busy, she's running late, go back upstairs and put the tooth keeper back and eat breakfast and maybe she'll have come by then". So I put the tooth back and went for breakfast. Almost finished eating and there was a knock at the front door my Granny calls out I'll get it (as she was right near the door) opens it up and cries out "Wow" I fly to the door to see what was up and Granny goes "There was a fairy at the door and she went straight upstairs". I flew up the stairs and I didn't see the fairy but she had taken my tooth and left me $2 (I normally only got $1), I cried out that she'd come and run back downstairs to show off my shining $2 coin. It wasn't till many years later I learnt that it was my cheeky Granny who had climbed the stairs and given me that $2 coin. I will always remember that story, it reminds me of how much grandmother loved me.

A Month at home is coming to a close on Thursday and then a new month is starting: A Month of Inspiration. I'm really looking forward to this one. I can get a bit more creative and maybe write some good pieces too. My inner child is crying out - Yeah!!!!

A Month of Home: Desk

Desk - that's what our dining room table was turned into this afternoon while MJ was studying Taxation for his CPA.

Yesterday's Month of Home was Drawer.

They say when one door closes another door opens but can the same be said about a drawer. If one drawer closes does another one open that is empty and really to be filled with potential? No when you close one drawer there is another one filled with crap just like the drawer before. The only way to get the drawer empty is to sort out all the garage in there and remove what shouldn't be there and replace it with what should be there.

You're properly reading this going - what on earth is the woman going on about? I don't blame you.

Last night we had a party to attend for some friends. We all use to be so close and had the greatest of fun but not any more. We now just something that gets in the way and only wanted when its convenient. I wish I could just close the drawer on that section of my life and walk away, but I've got to sort it out and remove things and pray I can find replacements. It's hard and very sad work to do but I can't hang on to something that doesn't want us any more.

So here's to a new cleaner drawer ready for some new potential and adventures.

Friday's Month of Home word was sweet. I so decided to cook us an Italian inspired dinner.

I used 3 recipes out of Nigella Lawson's new cookbook - Nigellissima. So I'm not really sure how Italian they are but it is an Italian recipe book (well inspired by the nation).

For the main course was Pork Chops with fennel seeds and allspice with a side of mock mash. The pork chops were so yummy and MJ said they it tasted like KFC flavouring - so maybe I've discovered one of the 11 secret herbs and spices. The mock mash was okay but I think it need more seasoning.

Dessert was Chocolate Hazelnut Cheesecake - oh my gosh - brilliant. But next time I'll use real Nutella because I've found out there is no substitute for the real thing.

So that's now another 3 off my 150 Nigella recipes I want to cook - so the count is now up to 6.

My reviews are as follows:

Title: Pork Chops with fennel seeds and allspice (I used mixed spice but same thing)
Book/Page #: Nigellissima #60
Date cooked: 22/02/13
Review out of 5: 5
Eat again: Yes
Notes: Tasted like KFC flavouring

Title: Mock Mash
Book/Page #: Nigellissima #136
Date cooked: 22/02/13
Review out of 5: 3
Eat again: Maybe
Notes: Needs more seasoning

Final product

Title: Chocolate Hazelnut Cheesecake
Book/Page #: Nigellissima #175
Date cooked: 22/02/13
Review out of 5: 4
Eat again: Yes
Notes: Next time use a bigger food processor and there is no substitute for Nutella

As you can see I kind of shop mainly at Woolworths - ha ha!

Just before the fridge

How it should look

How mine looked

A Month of Home: Cute

Mischa's being cute - she's watching The Simpsons.

A Month of Home: Homemade

Homemade - last night I made for the first time ever a Souffle.

It wasn't as hard as I imagined. I got the recipe from Taste website here.

I was happy it rasied up like I think they are meant too. I'm not sure if it tasted the way it was meant to taste as I've never eaten on before and it tasted like a omellete.

I think next time I make one I'll try a chocolate one - nice and sweet.

I did laugh when MJ ate it last night, he took one bite and turns to me and says "There is no meat in this right?" - my poor meat eater.

I've now crossed off another item off my 101 list too - yeah!!!!

Catch up

Hi there, I've been off the gird for a few days now but I'm back.

I had craft camp over the weekend (so no internet - which was a nice break) and last night I had my 2nd pottery class so I've been pre-occupied for the past few days.

I had a wonderful time at craft camp over the weekend, it was nice to get away for a few days with mum and some crazy women. I laughed and talked the whole weekend. I started a new craft and I'm very happy. Can't wait for the next one in July.

Here is a picture of the little frog who decided to make our room his room for the weekend.

I'll do a quick catch up on the Month of Home:

Friday - Fabric
Well technically not fabric but my cards from cardmaking class are paper pieced together just like a fabric patchwork quilt.

Saturday - Delicious

I don't have documented proof of this but the camp food was delicious. I have special dietary requirements (diabetic and wheat-free) and I swear my food is sometimes nicer than the normal food. Dessert on Saturday night was the best - vanilla mousse with kiwi and passionfruit.

Sunday - Sorted

I finally got myself sorted over the weekend and learnt how to crochet, with the help of magazines and mum's knowledge. As you can see this is my first attempt and I did undo and redo that piece several times and started another piece on some new wool. I'm so impressed with myself for finally starting it, now to just keep going with it.

Monday - Growing

I really want to start growing some of my own fruits and veggies so I thought I better start some research so here are some magazines I bought yesterday - all 3 for only $8.95 - bargain.

Tuesday - Floor

I'm going to be a bit lazy with this one and say I took most of the above photos on the floor.

A Month of Home: Pile

Happy Valentine's Day for the 14th.

This year MJ asked me not to buy him a present as he didn't really need or want anything. But I love Valentine's Day and really wanted to do something special for him to say thank you for being a wonderful husband and I love you so much.

Well I really piled on the surprises and the fun. First thing he was greeted with a Valentine's balloon I bought at Woolworths (well I didn't pay for it actually as there was no barcode and the cashier just gave it too me) so I told him that my love for him was "priceless" - ha ha!!!!

He opened up his lunch box to some silly joke gifts (see picture below) and he just laughed at me and thought it was very cute.

I sent him off to work with some Red Velvet Brownies (recipe found at The Novice Chef blog) to share the love with his coworkers - except my brownies look nothing like they are meant to but they tasted awesome anyway.

MJ arrived home to find the house decorated with Valentine's balloons and a Valentine's banner and heart sprinkles everywhere. I cooked him lamb shanks for dinner (recipe found at Taste website) and double chocolate cupcakes with red fondant hearts. I did have a little trouble with the lamb shanks. I put the oven on to preheat for the cupcakes and totally forgot about the defrosting lamb shanks in there until I smelt burning plastic. So had to go and buy all new lamb shanks - oh no.

The poor melted ones - so sorry lamb

Doesn't look the greatest but tasted awesome

I created a video message from myself and one from Mischa followed by a photo slide show to music. He loved it.

His main present was a little book made out of playing cards with 52 reasons why I love you. Which was so much fun to create.

I had a ball thinking, planning and creating this whole day. Much more fun then just giving him a present I bought. I think I might do this every year.

I did get a Valentine's present too - a very pretty potted plant.

What did you get up to?

A Month of Home: Door

Door - what I walked out of yesterday afternoon to go visit my dad for his birthday. Yesterday he turned 69. Wow 69, I never really think of my dad as an age he's just always been older, I can't believe he is that age.

Well every year it gets harder and harder to know what to buy my dad for his birthday, Christmas or Father's Day. Last birthday all he got was a pair of Rivers socks (he likes that brand). But I really didn't just want to give him socks again (plus too he said he has over 30 pairs of socks so doesn't need anymore). So I decided to make him afternoon tea. I baked his favourite - banana bread and peanut cookies, bought some nice cheeses, chutney and crackers and some new tea. I took both him and mum down to the river and we had a mini picnic with fresh tea (except I forgot his sugar) and lovely treats. He loved it and said he really enjoyed it.

I think I might do something like that again for Father's Day later in the year.

Pancake Tuesday

Happy Pancake Tuesday everyone.

I decided to make myself useful (that's today month of home word) and get into the kitchen and make some pancakes for dinner. I've never made savoury pancakes before and I just wanted to give them ago.

My recipe of choice - Herb and Parmesan Pancakes found online.

They were simple to make and prepare and tasted pretty good - only thing was they were so filling I could only eat 1and half of them, so MJ has lunch for work tomorrow now.

What recipes did you try?

I'm a very messy person when it comes to creating and cooking - I'm organised and tidy messy but I'll still create something to clean up.

So what is a new craft that is suitable for a messy person to learn. Pottery!!!!

For the next 8 weeks on Monday nights I'll be doing a Pottery Class through the local community college. My first class was last night and it was so much fun. I've already created one small bowl and next week we can start our creations. I'm thinking something practical - like a platter so that every time I use it I can remember that I made that.

I'm going to enjoy getting Messy on Monday nights.

Monday, 11 February 2013

Beautiful - was the time spent with family on a Sunday afternoon to celebrate my dad's 69th birthday. Talking, eating, running around after a 3 year old (swinging on the clothesline, tadpoling in the back pond, just plain getting into mischief). It was a wonderful time.

Tested out my new bake a number tin, dad was impressed

I've always wanted to see my name in print because if I did I'd feel like I'd made some impact in my life for the greater good of the world.

I want to make an impact on this world, I want to be remembered for a good reason and for being a change.

I want to make an imPRINT, I'd like to be a part of a greater good.

Do you feel the same?

Oh where did you go?

I've lost my blogging mojo - not quite sure where it went too. I posted this dilemma on my Facebook page and was giving some advice: "It won't be far away, sit down and start typing - you might find it will appear for where it's hiding." So Lynda I'm giving it a go and see where my words take me.

The past few days I haven't posted my Month of Home - so here is a quick catch up.

Day Five- Patterned

These are some fabric from the Cath Kidston collection my mum bought me on her trip to England last year. Not sure what to make with these beautiful pieces - suggestions please. Any?????

Day Six- Window

Well technically not a window but it's Mischa's window to the outside world.

Day Seven - Collection

This is my perfume collection. The tallest two MJ gave me for Christmas and birthday last year (2012) Sunflower and True Love by Elizabeth Arden. The one next to them is Pretty by Elizabeth Arden also given to me by MJ a few Christmas ago. The bottle with the golden funny shaped lid was my grandmother's favourite scent Pearl Lace from Avon. Whenever I miss my grandmother too much I spray some of this to remember her. The blue one in front is Curious by Britney Spears - given to me by some wonderful friends at the time (sadly not friends anymore) for my 21st birthday. The little ones along the front are a unique purchase from a French perfume factory in Nice. On our big trip in 2010 our tour stopped at the factory and MJ made sure I got some pretty perfume to remember France. They smell divine.

What would you add to this collection?

I've been a bit low in my spirits the past few days and haven't been using my time to the best that I should (Ipads are such time wasters). I will endeavour to pick myself back up and head down the right track again and hopefully get back into the joy of blogging that I had.

A Month of Home: Cosy/1st Birthday

2nd of February 2012 at 12:02pm at beautiful little girl was born.

2nd of February 2013 at 11:00am that little girl had a pretty in pink 1st birthday party.

My niece turned 1 - and it was such a pretty party. The party was hosted indoors due to the rain so it was nice and cosy, but that didn't stop the fun.

My sister-in-law did all the decorations/cakes and set the party table up. My mum made the birthday bunting, it's doubled sided so it can be used as decoration in my niece's room.

It all became a little too much for the birthday girl who just got way too overtired and couldn't open up her presents in front of everyone.

Nice and cosy!!!

The older kids played pass the parcel and blew bubbles outside when it did clear a little.

I did take my lolly bag home but the ants got it in the car and so I lost all my lollies - sad face.
